One of the most beneficial things you can do for your dental health is to schedule regular dental checkups with a trusted dental professional. During these examinations your dentist will:

  • Thoroughly Clean Your Teeth – Even if you brush and floss daily, your teeth will still collect plaque and calculus (tartar) in hard to clean areas. This buildup can only be removed with professional dental instruments.
  • Screen Your Mouth for Oral Cancer –We look for signs of cancer during every checkup. It is imperative that cancer is caught early, as you’ll have a much better chance of beating it.
  • Take X-rays of Your Mouth – X-rays help us to spot signs of decay and disease that might otherwise be hidden. They can also reveal many other problems such as tumors, bone loss, etc.
  • Examine Your Gums – We want to make sure your gums are healthy and we watch for any signs of periodontal disease in order to keep your gums as healthy as possible.
  • Discuss Any Concerns You Are Experiencing – we are here to help YOU feel and look great! Please don’t hesitate to bring up your concerns and/or questions with Dr. Winn or Dr. Anglin.

When you visit us for regular checkups, you can expect to improve both the health and the appearance of your teeth. You can also expect to spend less time and money on the health of your teeth, because as they say,” an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”. Our goal is to prevent issues from forming, and to catch them early if and when they do arise. We’ll help you maintain outstanding dental health, and that’s a promise!

Periodontal treatments are used when you have developed gum disease. Gingivitis is the most common form of gum disease and can be reversed with professional treatment and good oral habits at home. If gingivitis is left untreated, it can turn into Periodontitis, which is much more serious and could even cause you to lose your teeth. Winn Smiles offers several services used to help repair gum disease, including scaling and root planing, tray delivery systems, gum grafting surgery, laser treatment for gum disease, dental crown lengthening, dental implants and pocket reduction procedures. We know that we can work together with you to solve your periodontic issues and preserve your smile.

A dental extraction is the removal of teeth from the socket in the bone. The most common reasons for extraction include tooth decay, disease, or some kind of dental trauma or injury. General dentists can performance simple tooth extractions, while more complicated cases are performed by an oral surgeon.

If you have cracked or broken teeth, or teeth that suffer from tooth decay, your dentist will most likely recommend fillings to repair the teeth. The decay is removed from a tooth using a drill, or sometimes a laser. Once the decay is gone, your dentist will shape the tooth to prepare it for the filling. After the filling is placed, your dentist will polish and smooth the tooth so it feels good as new.

No temporary crown. No second visit. No goo in your mouth. The CEREC one-visit crown machine helps our highly trained assistants create a restoration for your tooth. The 3D software takes the digital picture and converts it into a 3-dimensional virtual model on the computer screen. Your Dentist then uses dental expertise to design the restoration using the 3D computer program. Within a few minutes, we click a button, and the restoration design data is sent to a separate milling machine in the office.

A ceramic block that matches your tooth shade is placed in the milling machine. About 10 – 20 minutes later, your all-ceramic, tooth-colored restoration is finished and ready to bond in place. Finally, your Dentist tries the restoration in your mouth to ensure proper fit and bite. The restoration is then polished and bonded to the prepared tooth. Your tooth is restored with no “temporary” or return trip necessary. All of this is done in a single appointment!

There are many reasons to wear a mouth guard, and not all of them have to do with flying soccer balls. Athletic mouth guards are a great investment for those who are involved in sports and could potentially make contact with a ball, the ground or another player. Dental injuries can be extremely painful, expensive and time consuming to correct, so wearing an athletic mouth guard to protect and prevent such an injury makes sense. Others may need occlusal splints, bite splints or night guards to help protect their teeth from night time clenching or grinding, which can cause wear, tooth fractures, headaches and neck aches. A mouth guard can also offer protection to the sensitive tissues in your mouth if you wear braces. If you need a mouth guard for any reason, our office would love to custom make one that will fit you comfortably and protect you when you need it!

A bridge requires two healthy teeth on either side of the missing tooth, while the false tooth sits into the gap, supported by the stability of the healthy teeth. The false tooth sits above the gums and does not replace the root of the missing tooth.

Sleeping appliances are effective devices for improving obstructive sleep apnea and reducing the frequency and severity of snoring. A custom fit appliance crafted by your dentist or orthodontist can improve your sleep, restore your alertness and revitalize your health. A sleeping appliance is only worn while sleeping and fits like a sports mouth guard. It helps ease the lower jaw forward to keep the airway open. There are a number of devices to choose from. Your dentist will recommend the appliance that is best for you.

Veneers are thin layers of porcelain used to recreate the natural look of healthy teeth. Veneers will conceal any flaws in the appearance of your teeth, such as discoloration, stains, chips and even gaps between teeth.

A dental implant can be used to replace multiple teeth without the support of adjacent healthy teeth. Implants are fused to the jawbone and become a permanent fixture, lasting a lifetime with little maintenance required.

You may wonder if fluoride treatments are really necessary for your family. Though you may be practicing excellent oral hygiene already, fluoride treatments are your child’s best defense against tooth decay and a good idea for everyone. Fluoride naturally strengthens enamel, making teeth resistant to decay. It also helps repair new areas of decay before they can grow and become a problem. While there are many cities in the United States that provide fluoridated water to their residents, and many kinds of fluoride toothpastes available at stores, we strongly recommend professional fluoride treatments. The length of time your child’s teeth are in contact with fluoride matters, as well as the concentration of the fluoride used. Let us help you protect your child’s smile from the start!

Getting sealants applied to your teeth is a simple and painless process. Your dentist paints the liquid plastic coating onto the chewing surface of your teeth. It settles into the grooves of each tooth and hardens into a shield that protects against food particles and plaque.

Symptoms that indicate the need for a root canal are not always present. Some signs include severe toothache pain, prolonged sensitivity, discolorations, and swelling or tendering in nearby gums. Your dentist will drill a hole into the offending tooth and remove the nerve and pulp that carries the bacteria and decay. The tooth is then cleaned and sealed to prevent further infection.
